Environmental Sustainability

Canvas believes businesses play a vital role in preserving our planet for generations to come. We are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint, embracing eco-friendly practices, and actively contributing to the global effort to combat climate change.

Scope 1 — Direct Emissions

Facilities:
Canvas’ leased facilities and internal offices are owned and operated by a property management company. As part of the contract with the building management, energy is provided to our office. We utilize communicated processes to reduce energy use and efficiently utilize energy daily.

Vehicles:
We promote eco-conscious c
ommuting among our staff by encouraging the use of fuel-efficient vehicles and advocating for energy-conscious choices for those driving company vehicles. Often, we encourage our employees to forego commuting to the office and continue their work from their home office, reducing overall emissions to improve our company’s carbon footprint.

Scope 2 — Indirect Emissions

Electricity:
Our corporate office heating and cooling is controlled by our property management company; however, the utilization of energy is governed by the core office hours. We make every effort to reduce power consumption on a daily basis. Our employees access water filter machines for non-plastic, multi-use, recyclable thermoses, and water bottles.

Our networked copy machines are set to default to two-sided printing to minimize paper usage and reduce consumption. Additionally, we take steps to ensure the responsible handling of copy machine toner cartridges, promoting their return, recycling, and reuse. Additionally, we employ a multi-receptacle approach to encourage recycling as a company effort. We use a certified paper-shredding service who engages in recycling to support a circular, sustainable economy.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions
We currently measure our Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and will continue to do so annually.

Current Emissions (2023):

Scope 1:   3.80 (t CO2e)

Scope 2:   0.10 (t CO2e)

Scope 3 — Indirect Emissions

Business Travel:
Canvas employees travel to their respective work locations to perform their tasks but at the beginning of the pandemic, we recognized the significance in flexible, remote work arrangements and a reduction in employee commuting through virtual meetings. We swiftly transitioned from in-person office attendance to a telecommuting mode and embrace a hybrid model.

Additionally, Canvas has made personal investment in internal research and development into a tool to assist our employees and customers in efficiently leveraging web technology to support test execution efforts. Our tool, ITAC, allows teams to receive realistic, distributed training, and test execution preparation from their duty station or home office. This tool is intended to reduce the need for travel for not only our own company but our customers and business partners.

We work to continuously improve our operations in the areas of greenhouse gas emissions, water use and waste management and will monitor and track progress toward our reduction goals established by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi).

Canvas, Inc. used the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Calculator to calculate our scopes.
